Federated Conservationists of Westchester County (FCWC), a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, is a non-profit environmental coalition of individual and organizational members.
An Educator, Advocate, and Protector
Since its inception in 1965, FCWC has brought together concerned citizens, numerous community organizations, educators, and diverse professionals committed to preserving and rehabilitating the natural resources of Westchester County.
FCWC is an educator, advocate, and protector. As a result of its sterling reputation and its role as an umbrella organization for numerous and disparate environmental groups, FCWC has become a trusted resource for the community. Government officials, environmental groups, schools, and concerned citizens seek the informed opinions and direction which have become the touchstone of FCWC.
FCWC has offered local solutions to global issues. We have expanded our role as a bridge builder between the environmental and business communities and worked to bring all stakeholders together surrounding these important environmental, social, and economic issues.
Each year the Board identifies key environmental issues to target in the coming year and discusses desired outcomes and strategies for accomplishing our goals. Over the course of the year, FCWC conducts workshops and other events to educate citizens of Westchester County about these environmental issues. In addition, FCWC is often asked to testify at hearings and to speak out on these and other environmental issues impacting the county.
It is because of our established reputation as a knowledgeable and responsive environmental organization, and our rich history in the county, that citizens, elected officials, community leaders, and business professionals look to us for an informed view on issues affecting the region.
As an umbrella organization, FCWC is uniquely well suited to foster the exchange of resources and ideas from local environmental groups and to channel their efforts to maximize our collective outreach.
About Us
Our Historical Timeline - a Work in Progress
As we are now celebrating our 55th year as an institution, FCWC is filled with rich history and experiences. In an attempt to display highlights of the last five decades, we will be constructing a timeline. In this timeline you will find the environmental issues by the decade, which FCWC has worked on.
A look Back:
A Golden Anniversary 2015

50 years ago when FCWC was founded, its goals were to promote environmentally sound planning and decision making throughout the county, and to educate the public and government officials on the need to protect Westchester’s environment. Those goals are still with us, and driving us, today.
Federated Conservationists of Westchester County Inc. (FCWC) was founded in 1965 as a not-for-profit umbrella coalition of dozens of local environmental groups and individuals whose purpose was to form a strong, unified voice.
As the premier environmental watchdog in Westchester, FCWC has educated its members, government officials, businesses, and the public on a wide range of environmental issues. It fulfilled this educational role using its newsletter, "Westchester Environment" in the past, and currently uses its electronic newsletter, FCWC's E-News. FCWC also offers workshops, frequent conferences, speaking engagements, roundtables, and testimony at countless hearings before governmental bodies and agencies. FCWC has provided crucial input to county planning studies. FCWC’s input has led to increased environmental sensitivity in decision making, and ongoing issues such as sewage
disposal. Throughout its history, FCWC also has been
the leading voice for adequate funding for county
parks maintenance and for purchasing additions to
the park system.
FCWC has offered local solutions to global issues.
