The White Plains
High School environmental group Advocates for the Earth traveled
to the George Washington
Elementary School
in
North White Plains on October 21
to teach a mini-lesson to the children in the city’s after school program.
After
a brief introduction to the club’s goals and activities, roughly
30 kindergarten to fifth graders participated in a variety of Earth related
activities. The kids made bird feeders, drew pictures of various natural
settings, played
a game which taught proper recycling, and ran a relay race to sort recyclable
and non-recyclable products. The event was attended by approximately a dozen
students from the high school.
Advocates is currently planning to
run similar programs at White Plains’ other
elementary schools sometime in the near future. Advocates is also continuing
to run the high school’s paper and printer cartridge recycling programs.
