Scarsdale’s Eco S.A.V.E.R.S. Transparency Cleaning System

The environmental club of Scarsdale High School, Eco S.A.V.E.R.S., has organized a system within the high school for the cleaning and re-using of transparencies. The transparencies are normally used by teachers in over-head projectors and are generally thrown out after use since there are no facilities for recycling them in the area. This system allows teacher to re-use the same transparencies several times, cutting down on the number the school must purchase, and thus saving resources.

As part of the system, teachers drop off used transparencies in a box located in the main office of the school. The teachers place the dirty transparencies in folders with their names written on them so they can be returned later. Since teacher mailboxes are located in the main office, it is an optimal location for the box’s placement. Students from the environmental club pick up the transparencies weekly and distribute them during the environmental club meeting. Once a student has washed the transparencies, he places them back in the folder and into the teacher’s mailbox in the main office.
