Mamaroneck HS Environmental
Club’s Historical Restoration
and Park Preservation Project
Throughout the year,
the Mamaroneck Environment Club has been working on a historical
site restoration project at the Rye Marshlands
Conservancy. We clear out the area covered with wysteria vines
and uncover the pebbled trail that used to run across the garden
in the 1800's. Allison, who works for the Westchester PARKS and
organizes our activities there, hopes that we would eventually
reproduce how the garden had looked like by planting native species
of bushes,
wildflowers, and trees that used to grow along the pebbled trail.
Sometimes she assigns us to do some other trailwork that requires
removing plants, either along roads in preparation for events and
programs held there, or around unused houses that they are trying
to make into a place where meetings and workshops can be held and
research can be done. We work on the historical site project at
least once or twice a month. If you are interested, come help us
out! Feel free to contact Amanda, Lilly, and I at weloveeclub@ecologyfund.net.
