1) UPCOMING EVENTS:


A. WHAT: “The River in Your Backyard”
WHEN: Sunday, May 22nd, from 2:30-4 pm
WHERE: Beczak Environmental Education Center in Yonkers
WHY: Find out what lives under the waves by using a large seine net that is dragged through the water to catch fish and other remarkable Hudson River creatures. We will be using scientific equipment to conduct water testing, and find out how Seasons,Temperature & Salinity are connected in the Hudson River estuary. Our Beczak educator will also discuss current environmental issues on the Hudson River. Waders will be provided for all.

B. WHAT: “End of Year Sailing Festival”
WHEN: Saturday, June 11, at 2:00 pm
WHERE: The Sloop Club in Beacon
WHY: Celebrate the end of the school year with a sailing trip on the Hudson River aboard the Woodie Guthrie. We will also begin planning for next year’s WESC events, programs, and activites. This is a great way to introduce your friends to WESC, so invite anyone you’d like! Please call Adiel at the office to RSVP, (914) 422-4053, or reply to this e-mail with your name, phone number and e-mail addresses of everyone who wants to go.

5) This is a petition made by the Union of Concerned Scientists urging the Environmental Protection Agency to replace old, dirty school buses.

6) OPPORTUNITY OVER SUMMER:


A local Sportsman’s club is sponsoring one "youth" (ages 12-16 and one 17 yr. old) to attend a DEC (Department of Environmental Conservation) one week summer camp session this summer. If you are interested, please contact Adiel.
