Environmental Advocate and

  Watchdog
Over the years FCWC has been a crucial instrument for effecting positive environmental action in the county legislature.

George Latimer, County Legislator and Former Chair of the County Legislature

FCWC has had a role for many years as the environmental watchdog for the county, ready to step in and advocate for the environment on a host of environmental issues as they come to the fore. As described in these pages, in 2002 FCWC has taken a leadership role on certain issues and worked in cooperation with other groups on other issues. Protecting our environment has been FCWC’s priority over the last 36 years as it has fought for our natural resources: our air, our water and our land.
FCWC representatives attend and monitor numerous meetings of both the legislative and executive branches of county government. Such monitoring keeps the environmental agenda foremost in the minds of the decision makers, enables FCWC to take prompt action and to alert other members of the environmental community of actions by the various branches of county government on matters of interest to them.

“The constant presence of an FCWC representative at environment committee meetings helps to keep us informed as to the views of the environmental community.”

Ursula La Motte, County Legislator and Member of the Environment And Health Committee
