A Letter of

  Introduction
The dismaying recent cutbacks in environmental protection on the federal level have made the role of those of us who work to protect the environment on a local level all the more important. In line with this urgent need, 2002 has been a year of tremendous growth for FCWC, both in its role as an advocate and as an educator. The year brought an expansion of FCWC’s educational outreach into broad new population groups and advocacy on many issues.

Education: The business community was a new audience for FCWC with the quarterly publication of a special edition of its newspaper Westchester Environment as an insert in the Westchester Business Journal. Through this medium FCWC was able to communicate important information about energy efficiency and renewable energy, low impact development and many other current issues beyond the “choir” to businessmen throughout the county. 2002 brought the conclusion of the first full year of FCWC’s high school environmental program and with it the extension of the program to include senior citizens.

The coming year brings renewed efforts by FCWC to advance the environmental agenda through education and advocacy. We thank all of you who have supported our work. We call upon you to get involved – make the changes you need to make in your own life to protect the environment. It is the efforts that we make in Westchester, coupled with similar actions by others in their own communities around the world, that will protect our planet. It requires action by all to achieve a world for future generations that can sustain life. Please join FCWC to help us in our work and get in touch with us to find out what else you can do.
